Our strategy is to exploit our advantages over the competition (higher international standards of GMP, high
quality products and significantly lower prices of generics, unmatched customer service, superior technology
assuring fast and reliable delivery) with carefully-tracked milestones for growth. We will start with production of molecules
that are easy to produce such as tablets, capsules and liquid orals; this will allow us to train local scientists, establish
and stabilize production and business processes/ systems. We will then move on to tackle more complex and much more expensive
to produce products such as steroids, high potent drugs; penicillins and cephalosporins.
Unit 1: for the production of Solid Dosages (tablets and capsules, oral rehydration salts) and Liquid Orals (multivitamins and cough syrups). This unit will also house the Quality Control Laboratories and Administration functions. Phase 1 will also include critical support systems/ infrastructure such as the Utility block, Effluent Treatment Plant and internal access roads.
Unit 2: this second unit is for the production of Small Volume Parenterals (injectables in ampoules and vials) and Creams, Ointments and Lotions.
Unit 3: the local demand justifies a separate unit for the production of Large Volume Parenterals (IV Solution). In the same unit, we will manufacture Ophthalmics (eye solution); the entry protocol and production process are similar and hence, make sense to manufacture together.
Future Units: future phases will include segregated units for the production of more complex products such as steroids, high potent drugs, penicillins and cephalosporins. Our future also includes production of other more complex products such as Oncology, Biotechnology, Chirality, etc.
Project Location: We have acquired 10 hectares of industrial land from the Government of Botswana in the mining town of Selebi Phikwe; the choice of location is based on two main reasons;
1. Strategic; Selebi Phikwe has been identified as a priority area for economic re-development by the Government. Hence, this project is in support of the Government’s efforts to diversify the economy of the mining town. We are working with the Selebi Phikwe Regional Diversification Unit (SPEDU) to establish this as an anchor project on which to base the ‘re-development and economic diversification’ of the town. The intent is that the project will, inter alia, be a catalyst and jolt the growth of varied industries in the area, beyond the incidental auxiliary/ allied industries that will surely come. This will be in addition to the primary economic impact of providing accommodation, schools, shopping, transportation, entertainment and other services to 1,300 employees and their families.
2. Symbolic; Selebi Phikwe region has the highest HIV prevalence rates in the country; It is only fitting that the first and only ARV manufacturing facilities in Botswana should be located here.
As is apparent, these two main reasons are in line with our company mission to focus on producing overall the maximum positive social impact possible, at all times.
